This Digiday article (http://digiday.com/publishers/tumblr-people-hate-digital-advertising/) is about a website that’s devoted to bashing digital publishers (like Wired Magazine) who use aggressive ad products like the “welcome message” to promote their brand advertisers or their own social media and email registration prompts.  Really?!  Sure, ads of all sorts in all media experiences are mostly annoying, and I’d likely prefer seeing none of them.  But considering the unfavorable current economics for digital publishers, I’d personally prefer seeing ads as a gateway to content than to having to pay for the content or to having no content at all.
