Awe, snap! I was doing so well holding off on posting anything about SnapChat’s $3b rejection, but I just read Jesse’s (from Jess3) Facebook post on my mobile phone (https://www.facebook.com/jessethomas/posts/10151783340583861:0) and now feel, for some reason, obligated to post.
Why?… a few reasons. Besides this prompting, I worry SnapChat is an amazing product feature responsible for creating enormous audience and is now required to spawn a full and diverse product experience to retain and continue to grow a presumably fickle audience. And all while that’s happening, SnapChat is going to have to a) monetize and b) generate incredible profits to justify unbelievable valuation expectations. And finally, because I just read this on WSJ (http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/11/19/snapchat-users-upload-more-photos-than-facebook-not-so-fast/) which states SnapChat is doing some double (or way more) counting, so I just felt compelled to comment.
Sure, I am obviously not in the demo (just ask my kids), but I do get the appeal of SnapChat… I just don’t get why you don’t sell. Call me a wimp, but if I were in their shoes, I would become a billionaire tomorrow and let someone else figure out the rest while I work on creating miracle number two.
